Quinoa is a seed and can be used as a substitute for rice.  It is light, fluffy, high in protein and is gluten free. There is a multitude of ways to use quinoa.  Quinoa needs to be rinsed before use otherwise it will taste bitter.  When washing use a fine strainer to run water through the quinoa.  Some packaged varieties come pre-washed so check the label.

Ingredients

  1. In a medium pot place the quinoa and water bring to the boil.
  2. Reduce to low heat.  Simmer covered for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat rest for 5 minutes.  Serve or add to other dishes.
