The song was written by Paul Simon and performed by Simon & Garfunkel. It is the last song for their fifth and final album which has been dubbed their signature song. In the 13th Annual Grammy Awards the song won five awards including Song of the Year and Record of the year.

What we like

  • We love this tender rendition of support for another being. The beautiful words are sung gently by Art Garfunkel initially as he is accompanied by piano. At first Garfunkel’s voice seems as if he is alone or we are alone in a valley. Then as the song builds we start to hear different instruments introduced which give it a richness and depth. It is with this crescendo that we are lifted into a level resonating with hope and strength. We are not alone

Mind experience

  • When we are troubled we may think that we are the only one that has this problem. We may bury ourselves in these thoughts until we further isolate ourselves. When someone reaches out to us and just listens we may just feel relieved in sharing. So if you ever feel this isolation try to reach out to another person. Or if you notice this in another person reach out yourself. No advice, no reasoning just listening and in this you give them the freedom to express their thoughts. In expressing it, it may just dissolve itself or at least ease the mind…

To think about

  • If you need a friend
    I’m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will ease your mind
