Philadelphia freedom was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin and was released as a single by the The Elton John Band. It reached number 1 in the US charts. Originally written as a tribute to the tennis star Billie Jean King, it has been adapted to display patriotic sentiment particularly in Philadelphia, United States.

What we like

  • We love the uplifting words that rise with the orchestral arrangement of the strings, flutes and horns

Mind experience

  • So many people in history and to this present age have lost their freedom. Freedom to be part of society, freedom of religion, freedom of equality of rights, freedom to vote and freedom lost to slavery. For many of us we hold the truth of freedom very close to us, however we may take it for granted unless it is challenged.
  • If we do not experience these freedoms we can find it harder to embrace that of our freedom within us. Our focus may be pulled to these outward freedoms but if we cannot experience them we can at least choose to look inside. Into the space where we and no one else has the control. If we are focused on limiting thoughts we may lose freedom, the freedom to choose with a clear limitless mind. If we are not trapped in the past with regret we can move to a greater freedom within ourselves ready to embrace a new present

To think about

  • Oh Philadelphia freedom shine on me, I love you
Shine a light through the eyes of the ones left behind
Shine a light shine a light
Shine a light won’t you shine a light
Philadelphia freedom I love you, yes I do
