Sir Elton Hercules John CBE (Order of the British Empire) was born in Pinner, Middlesex, England as Reginald Kenneth Dwight.  He is a singer, songwriter, composer, pianist, record producer and actor.

Elton John wrote this song one Sunday when he was reflecting on death, how it would feel to leave your body and float over it.  The next day, he was informed that Guy Burchett, a 17 year old messenger boy that he knew, had been killed in a motor cycle accident the day before.

What we like

  • The song is mainly a piano solo with a repeating melody which introduces percussion.  Its repeating melody seems to tell of a secret, something important that we all must know

Soul experience

  • There are so many ways you can read into this simple melody and few words that are spoken at the end.    Haven’t you heard a song and actually repeated words that are yours nothing to do with the actual song being sung?  What about “Life isn’t it everything?” try it, it fits well and could also fit into the significance of the song.  This meaning could be that life is everything while you are experiencing it, so experience it.  Yet there is more after that which we experience in this life.  Either way you can make this into an appreciation of life itself.

To reflect on

  • Life
    Isn’t everything…
